Publications

Publications from the INNOVAE Center for Gulf Entrepreneurial Studies (CGES) transform the Center’s research into a documented and continuously expanding body of knowledge about entrepreneurship, enterprise, entrepreneurial ecosystems, and economic transformation across the Gulf. They provide the formal intellectual record of the Center’s investigations into how entrepreneurs, enterprises, governments, institutions, markets, and economic strategies have contributed to the development of the region and how these forces continue to shape its future.

CGES publishes research spanning the historical, entrepreneurial, economic, institutional, technological, and social dimensions of Gulf development. Publications may examine entrepreneurial and economic history, individual entrepreneurs and business families, companies and industries, government entrepreneurship, economic diversification, free zones, foreign investment, startups, innovation, technology, international business, entrepreneurial ecosystems, emerging sectors, cities, institutions, and national development strategies. Particular attention is given to understanding the interaction between public-sector leadership and private entrepreneurial activity and the distinctive forms of enterprise development that have emerged across Gulf economies.

The Center’s publications take multiple forms, including Research Notes, Working Papers, Research Papers, historical studies, entrepreneurial biographies, company and industry case studies, comparative studies, ecosystem analyses, field reports, economic analyses, institutional studies, and other research publications. This approach allows CGES to document both long-term historical developments and contemporary transformations as they occur. Field observations, conferences, institutional visits, entrepreneurial environments, and direct engagement with the region can therefore become part of a continuously developing research record alongside archival, documentary, and academic investigation.

The publication program begins with a strong focus on the United Arab Emirates, building upon extensive research into its economic and entrepreneurial history and progressively documenting the people, enterprises, institutions, policies, and ideas that contributed to its transformation. As the Center develops, this research expands systematically across Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman, creating opportunities for comparative analysis and for the identification of both distinctive national trajectories and broader patterns of entrepreneurial development across the Gulf.

The publications presented below form a growing intellectual archive of the entrepreneurial transformation of the Gulf. Together, they seek to preserve its history, document its present evolution, and develop a deeper understanding of the forces shaping its future. Through this work, CGES aims to contribute a rigorous and increasingly comprehensive body of knowledge about how entrepreneurial economies develop, how enterprises and institutions interact, and how entrepreneurship can become a powerful force in long-term economic transformation.
