The INNOVAE Center for Gulf Entrepreneurial Studies Podcast is the voice of CGES’s continuing exploration of entrepreneurship, enterprise, and economic transformation across the Gulf. It provides a space to discover and document the entrepreneurs, business families, companies, institutions, cities, ideas, policies, and economic forces that have shaped the region’s entrepreneurial development. Each episode contributes to a larger intellectual journey: understanding how the Gulf developed its entrepreneurial economies, how they operate today, and how they are continuing to transform.

The podcast explores the Gulf from both historical and contemporary perspectives. Episodes may reconstruct the story of an influential entrepreneur or enterprise, investigate the development of a major industry, examine the evolution of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Riyadh, Doha, or other entrepreneurial environments, analyze a free zone or business ecosystem, explore government entrepreneurship and economic diversification, or document emerging developments in technology, investment, innovation, startups, and international business. The objective is to move beyond surface descriptions of economic growth and understand the people, decisions, institutions, capabilities, and entrepreneurial processes behind that transformation.

A defining characteristic of the podcast is its connection with the Gulf as a living research environment. Episodes can emerge directly from field research, conferences, exhibitions, business districts, universities, innovation centers, companies, cultural institutions, government initiatives, and conversations with entrepreneurs and other people participating in the region’s development. This makes the podcast not only a platform for discussing existing research, but also a means of documenting entrepreneurial history while part of that history is still being created.

The podcast begins with a strong focus on the United Arab Emirates and progressively expands across Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, and the wider Gulf. The episodes presented below form an evolving audio record of CGES research and discovery—from the historical foundations of commerce and enterprise to the new industries, entrepreneurs, technologies, investments, and economic strategies shaping the region today. Together, they pursue a central CGES ambition: to understand, document, and preserve the entrepreneurial story of the Gulf while investigating the forces that are building its economic future.
