Books
Books developed through the INNOVAE Center for Gulf Entrepreneurial Studies (CGES) represent the most comprehensive expression of the Center’s research into the economic and entrepreneurial development of the Gulf. They investigate the people, enterprises, institutions, industries, ideas, policies, and historical forces that have shaped the region’s transformation from its early commercial foundations to the emergence of some of the world’s most dynamic centers of business, investment, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Together, these works seek to construct a deep and continuously expanding record of how Gulf economies were built, how their entrepreneurial systems evolved, and how they continue to transform.
The Center’s book program begins with the United Arab Emirates, where CGES is developing an extensive body of work examining the country from multiple historical and entrepreneurial perspectives. This research includes the economic history of the UAE, its entrepreneurial history, its contemporary entrepreneurial development, the evolution of its entrepreneurial ecosystem, the role of entrepreneurs and business families, the contribution of government entrepreneurship, and the development of the enterprises, institutions, industries, and cities that have shaped the country’s extraordinary transformation. Rather than reducing the UAE story to oil or rapid modernization, these books seek to reconstruct the deeper and more complex interaction between commerce, entrepreneurship, leadership, institutions, global connectivity, investment, and enterprise.
The collection progressively extends beyond the UAE to investigate Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, and the Gulf as an interconnected entrepreneurial region. Books may explore the economic and entrepreneurial histories of individual countries, major entrepreneurs and enterprises, family businesses, government entrepreneurship, economic diversification, entrepreneurial ecosystems, free zones, investment, technology, emerging industries, cities, and national transformation strategies. Comparative works will also examine how different Gulf economies have approached similar challenges and opportunities while developing distinctive models of entrepreneurial and economic development.
A defining characteristic of the CGES book program is the connection between history and contemporary transformation. The Center is not only reconstructing what happened in the past; it is documenting a region whose entrepreneurial landscape is changing in real time. Field research, institutional observation, conferences, entrepreneurial ecosystems, business environments, interviews, contemporary companies, and emerging industries can therefore become part of the historical record being created today. This allows the collection to connect the origins of Gulf enterprise with the entrepreneurs, institutions, technologies, investments, and economic strategies shaping its next era.
The books presented below form a growing library of Gulf entrepreneurial studies, designed to preserve entrepreneurial history while creating new knowledge about enterprise and economic transformation. Through this collection, CGES seeks to build a comprehensive intellectual record of the Gulf’s entrepreneurial journey—its origins, its entrepreneurs, its enterprises, its economic transformation, its contemporary evolution, and the possibilities that are now shaping its future.
