The region represents one of the most significant economic transformations of the modern era: societies historically shaped by trade, maritime activity, natural resources, and regional commerce have developed into increasingly diversified economies characterized by global cities, major enterprises, advanced infrastructure, investment, technology, innovation, and ambitious entrepreneurial ecosystems. CGES investigates this transformation to understand how entrepreneurship and enterprise have developed across the Gulf, what forces have shaped them, and what their evolution can teach us about entrepreneurial and economic development.

The Center begins its research with the United Arab Emirates, examining its economic and entrepreneurial development from its historical foundations to the contemporary emergence of Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, and the wider UAE as important centers of business, investment, innovation, and entrepreneurship. From this foundation, CGES progressively extends its research across Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, and the wider Gulf, studying each economy within its own historical, institutional, cultural, and entrepreneurial context while also investigating the connections, differences, and patterns that characterize the region as a whole.

CGES studies the Gulf as a living entrepreneurial environment. Its research explores entrepreneurs and enterprises, family businesses, government and public-sector entrepreneurship, economic diversification, free zones, investment, technology, innovation, startups, international business, entrepreneurial ecosystems, institutions, cities, markets, and the relationship between public strategy and private enterprise. Historical research is combined with contemporary observation and field investigation, allowing the Center to examine not only how Gulf economies reached their present position, but how entrepreneurship is evolving today and how entrepreneurs, enterprises, governments, institutions, and global economic forces are shaping the region’s next stage of development.

As part of the broader research ecosystem of INNOVAE School, CGES connects regional investigation with the continuing development of Entrepreneurial Business Architecture (EBA) and INNOVAE’s research into social and economic transformation.
